Right next to the old Drama building on Igriška street 5 in central Ljubljana, Top Pizza opened quietly - and it's the kind of place that doesn't need to shout about itself.
The man behind the pizza
The biggest draw here isn't on the menu. It's Sašo - owner, pizza maker, and the kind of person who genuinely wants to talk to you about what he's making. The kitchen is open, and watching him work is half the experience. He shapes the dough by hand, picks the ingredients carefully, and tracks every step of the bake. Then he turns around and tells you about it.
It doesn't feel like a performance. It feels like being invited into someone's kitchen. You leave feeling like a guest, not a customer - which is rarer than it should be.
What's on the menu
The pizza selection covers the classics well — margherita, marinara (San Marzano sauce, stracciatella, truffle extra virgin olive oil, aged hard cheese, basil), funghi, quattro formaggi, treviso, and pesto (pesto, cherry tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, aged hard cheese, extra virgin olive oil).
Vegan options are available too — margherita, pesto, and the classic. If a full pizza feels like too much, there's an Italian sandwich, or you can grab a slice of margherita or buffalo. Either way, you won't leave hungry.
Save room for the Top cookie - a chocolate biscuit that does exactly what a good dessert should. You'll want another one before you've finished the first.
The verdict
Top Pizza isn't trying to be the biggest pizzeria in Ljubljana. It's trying to be the best one on your street — and on Igriška street, it absolutely is. Go for the pizza. Stay for Sašo.
